Roberto Clemente Community Academy Welcomes Its Juniors Back From Break
Clemente Students just came back from a two-week winter break, but at Clemente there is no such thing as easing back into the school year… it is hard work and all business every day of the school year! Here at Clemente, one of the main focuses is creating a “Culture of College”, meaning that it is important and imperative that all students will be going to college. One aspect of that is teachers must make sure that students are receiving a rich, fulfilling curriculum as well as a skilled-based one that will prepare them for the ACT and college success. The other aspect is that, as an IB World school, there are certain learner profiles and aspects of the curriculum that must be addressed.
Once students have received those things it is time to fine-tune and work on their college decisions. In One Goal, one of the many fantastic classes that is offered here at Clemente, students take a Practice ACT which has several purposes. One of the purposes is that students will have increased exposure to the exam and therefore will be more comfortable when they take the exam. In the One Goal class students are constantly discussing the ACT, while stressing the importance of the exam as well as looking at strategies for success.
Another purpose of the Practice ACT is that students will be given a PDF file that contains their data, including their GPA, class rank, and Practice ACT score. With this data students can examine what colleges are the best “Match” for them. They will examine 6 “Match” schools as well as 4 “Reach” schools and two “safety” schools. Junior Steven Fitts states, “I love the way that Clemente uses data to help focus my college search and helps me explore what schools will be the best fit for me. They also help to expose me to schools that I wouldn’t have looked at before. Everything is formatted well and the staff is so helpful.”
