My name is Johanna Pina and I am a Junior at Roberto Clemente Community Academy. I am one of the members here at the Union League Boys and Girls club, which meets daily after school and during student lunch. I am excited to be part of this wonderful community that has helped me adjust to high school and tackle the challenges that I have had to work through. I have been able to meet wonderful people through this program. Alonso Pasillas, who I can call a mentor, teacher, and friend, looks out for all students in the program and motivates me to continue improving and moving forward. He is someone I can count on to help me get to where I want to be in the future.
Through the Boys and Girls Club, I have also been able to break out of my shell and meet new people, becoming friends with many students no matter if they are a Senior, Sophomore, or Freshman. This club also offers many different activities and programs, and one that I’ve found for myself is the Boys and Girls Club Clemente Drumline. Drumline is where you will find me playing my snare drum. I have also been given the opportunity to be Captain this year and I have performed at many events, both in the school and in the community. Being in this club has helped me develop confidence in my actions and my work towards being a role model for my niece. As I continue to pursue my dreams and be the successful person that my parents wish me to be, I want nothing else but to make my family happy and proud.
My hopes and dreams change as I myself continue to change and develop into an adult, but one goal I want to achieve is to purchase a home for my parents and me. My family has always rented and my parents have worked hard to provide. I want to be successful so that my parents have a place they can call their own and never have that feeling of stress. The most important dream I have is to graduate from college and have a successful career as a doctor. I feel obligated to do my best and be successful in life doing something I will love. I have two nephews and one niece and I want to provide them with the hope that they can one day reach their own goals in life, just as I will have. I will continue to work hard in school, enjoy my time at Clemente and with the Boys and Girls Club, and move forward in achieving my goals. I will never stop striving for success.
