Student-Led Inquiry
This week, students in Miss Schibelka’s World Studies class are working on a project for which they get to study a problem in their society, the systems that are contributing to it, and possible solutions to the issue. The project includes a research component and the creation and presentation of a PowerPoint displaying students’ findings. This project is especially interesting to students because they are exploring self-selected topics that are important to them.
“It’s fun because we get to learn about what we want to learn about and not just what the teacher wants us to learn about,” says Shyann Concepcion, who is researching the extent to which religion inhibits the advancement of gay rights.
After students present their projects, students will have the opportunity to vote on which project they think is the best. The winning PowerPoint presentation will be featured on the Clemente website as the May 22, 2015 freshman web article of the week.
